    What is Witchcraft?

When you mention witchcraft, many people summon images of devils, demons, infant and animal sacrifice, and broom rides to mind. However, these stereotypes of the historical remnants of prejudice against many groups of non-Christian spiritual groups.

Witchcraft today is a spiritual practice and craft where practitioners seek to discover and use their own psychic abilities to connect with the earth, divinity, their ancestors, and the universe itself. Witchcraft consists of many laws handed down through the hermetic principles over the years, but one major law encompasses the whole of the practice: “An it harm none, do what ye will.” First and foremost, witches always seek to work toward the highest good of themselves and others, knowing that karma will return your energies back to you in the end.

Witches utilize natural items–such as crystals, herbs, and oils–to help them to project their energy into the universe to create change in the world around them. We call this using majick, or casting a spell. Connecting deeply with the earth and our ancestors is a vital practice for most witches.

    The Theory of Tarot

Many people think of the Tarot as a scary tool that allows demons to communicate secret future knowledge to unsuspecting mortals. However, the tarot is a very helpful tool, both psychologically and spiritually.

The first thing that one needs to know about the tarot is that it is made up of two distinct groups–the major arcana, and the minor arcana. The major arcana consists of 22 cards, which are made up of cultural images and psychological and spiritual archetypes. These cards show us the journey to enlightenment when placed in order (this is also known as “The Fool’s Journey”). The minor arcana consists of four suits, embodying the energy of the four classical elements–earth (pentacles), air (swords), fire (wands), and water (cups). These cards give insight into your current, day-to-day circumstances.

Together, the major and minor arcana give us insight into ourselves, and ways in which we can better grow spiritually and psychologically. While witches use these tools in conjunction with their psychic abilities, many non-practitioners use the cards to give them insight into their own psyche, basing their insights on what they notice about the cards they pull and applying them to their current life circumstances.
